Official Statement from the Utah Rugby League Association (URLA) Regarding the Round 5 Judiciary Review
To our valued players, supporters, and the entire Utah rugby community,
The URLA Committee acknowledges the on-field altercation that took place during the Broncos vs. Roosters match in Round 5 of the Hopoate Cup. This incident does not reflect the standards we are striving to set for rugby league in this state. We sincerely apologize to the fans and families who witnessed this display. You deserve a better product on the field, and we are committed to providing it.
Following the match, an independent Judiciary Panel was convened. To ensure complete impartiality and demonstrate that this decision was driven by the clubs themselves, the panel was composed of representatives from three uninvolved teams (Raiders, Rabbitahz, and Seagulls) and a URLA Committee member.
After a thorough review of the incident, the panel has issued the following sanctions:
Summary of Sanctions
Roosters RLFC
-
Player #13: Two (2) Match Suspension
-
Player #20: Two (2) Match Suspension
Broncos RLFC

Player #4: Three (3) Match Suspension
-
Player #8: Two (2) Match Suspension
-
Player #22: One (1) Match Suspension
-
Player #2: Official Warning
The presidencies of both the Broncos and Roosters have been sent the full, official judiciary report. This comprehensive document includes a detailed timeline of the altercation, an analysis of each player’s role, and the specific rationale for each sanction with direct reference to the URLA Code of Conduct.
For too long, poor sportsmanship and on-field violence have plagued both rugby league and union in our community. The URLA was founded to change this. The sanctions handed down are a direct reflection of our commitment to creating a new culture—one built on toughness and respect, not cheap shots and fighting.
Let this serve as a clear message to all players and clubs: the responsibility for elevating the standard of play rests with all of us. The URLA will continue to hold players accountable for their actions and will not hesitate to issue significant sanctions for any similar incidents in the future. We thank you for your continued support as we work to build a better future for rugby league in Utah.
Sincerely,
The URLA Committee
